Father Knows Best

Breakfast was an egg in a basket, and coffee. I wanted grapefruit, but I'm saving it for tomorrow. We made our way over to my parents house for Sunday lunch. While preparing the feast we drank wine and ate apples, cheese, and crackers. My dad did the bulk of the cooking today. Here he is putting twice baked potatoes in the oven while we sat around and drank wine. They came out of the oven perfect. They're stuffed with onions, bell pepper, cheese, and bacon. Also on the menu, salad my mother made:
Steaks grilled to perfection on the George Foreman
And we moved on to Chimay for lunch. My plate:

After this, we had coffee and I shared a cookie with my mother. I think I had most of it though.
I drove home very sleepily and collapsed. After I awoke I had a leftover enchilada (expect to see this for lunch tomorrow too). I love that green sauce! I'm drinking a mocktail of cranberry-grape juice and club soda.
"I'll have another cointreau and sody."
Has anyone seen "The Big Picture"? Not a great movie, but a few funny lines.

Medrool Dates

As usual, I was in a rush this morning, but still had time to make Cream of Wheat. I did not have time to photograph it, so this picture is from Sunday. Sorry. It was really tasty, but didn't hold me over very well.
I started snacking pretty early on a medjool date, a fresh gala apple and babybel cheese.
Around 11:30 I went to the gym and did 20 minutes on the elliptical and 15 on the bicycle. Not bad for a lunch hour.
Lunch was one of the last (large) squares of lasagna, all chopped up. This helps with microwaving, I find.
I was doing fine until a little while after lunch when I wanted something sweet. I remembered that I had a little peanut butter, and a few dates. I've seen this combo on other blogs, but I've never tried it.
Delicious! I had unpitted medjool dates, so I split them open and removed the stone, this left a little pocket to distribute a teaspoon or so of peanut butter.
The O Organics was pretty good peanut butter, although it did need stirring quite often, and there were hard dry spots throughout. I'm willing to call that "user error" and give them a thumbs up. It was tasty and inexpensive.
After this high calorie snack, I proceeded to eat some Puffins, probably out of boredom.
I was so full that I wasn't hungry until I started driving home, and this is probably Pavlovian.
Once home we decided upon omelets for dinner. I made mine with onions, shrooms, unsalted butter, amish swiss, one egg + one egg white, and 1/3 cup of black beans. On the side I had a yellow bell pepper wedge and a few grape tomatoes. I've decided due to this picture that I need a few white plates. (*I do have 2 large white plates, but don't use them often.*)
Oh, I almost forgot since it didn't get plated - a slice of Canadian bacon and mug of coffee. The bacon was one of those things we needed to "get rid of" or it would go bad soon. Good excuse, huh?

Here's the Canadian bacon cooking. Fascinating, I know.

Cold Snap Saturday

Breakfast: This morning I woke up to a nicely chilly apartment. On the menu: eggs, toast, and turkey sausage.
Mr. Greens was home with me, and we took our time before heading out the door to go shopping. My friend Anne and her boyfriend Victor were having a barbeque at their store, so we headed over to check it out. It was a great day to be outside, the weather was so nice!
Anne:
Victor (waving a skull):
Lunch:
I ate a burger with cheese, and on the side a few Zapp's potato chips. Plus a Newcastle. Or two. After grocery shopping, we went on a date that I've been planning for a few weeks. Albasha is one of my favorite restaurants, mostly because I love Greek food.
We ordered the fried haloom cheese appetizer.
We both ordered the souvlaki sandwich. It came with a feta cheese salad and hummus on the side.
Afterward we went next door to Marble Slab Creamery. I have been wanting to try their frozen yogurt for awhile. There were three choices: vanilla, chocolate, or both. I got a swirl, with butterfinger smashed in.
This was a small! Mr. Greens had half a waffle cone.

Mushroom Omelet

One of my favorite bloggers, Angela discussed sleep cycles today. This was timely because my cat Hedwig would not stop with the meowing last night. My sleep cycle was definitely interrupted more than once. I finally figured out that her problem was that the dryer was running, so she didn't want to go through her cat door, but she wanted to go outside. Yes, she is spoiled. She is also the loudest cat I've ever met. And her tongue always sticks out in the most unladylike fashion.
On to breakfast!
Another whole wheat waffle from the freezer batch. This time with most of a banana and a few walnuts.
And no, those aren't bite marks on the side. That's just a Lopsided waffle.
I worked overtime today, but that didn't keep me from grazing on some veggies and hummus. Let's not forget the Smokehouse almonds. I need to stop eating these. So. Much. Salt.
I didn't quite finish the vegetables and hummus spread, and back into the fridge they went. My work fridge is pretty packed.
Soon afterward I ate lunch. I had brought a smallish sweet potato (pre-baked), but it was not good. I actually meant to eat it yesterday, instead I ate pizza. So today I had a trifecta of leftovers: Mujadarrah, the last of the cauli' mac 'n' cheese (serious this time) and black beans.
Amish swiss on the side (ate half of this ounce serving)
After a few hours of work, I ate a Clif and some more banana. At times I feel guilty eating bars if I'm not working out, like today. I know that a calorie is a calorie... I got home to an empty house. Since I planned on having dinner later, I had a snack of cashews and chocolate covered raisins.
I trucked over to Highland Coffees to get more of our daily coffee, and myself a nice treat. One unpictured iced soy mocha later, I decided to go to Whole Foods for some retail therapy.
I've been really wanting a veggie sandwich with mushrooms and sprouts like I was eating this summer. Fresh and simple. So I bought a few supplies: Sprouts, yogurt, spinach, mushrooms, and two frozen burritos (in case of emergencies).
The yogurt selection was pitiful. By that I mean, it was all wiped out. There was a sale on Chobani and every single container was gone! Oh well. I need to get on some sort of message board in my area with alerts for these kinda sales.
I also got junk food and top secret work snacks:
I need help! I don't even need snacks, but I couldn't resist buying some things. The Food Should Taste Good was free with a coupon though! Olive is my favorite.
Drool!
I almost forgot about dinner. I wasn't super hungry, but I wanted to try some mushrooms. So I decided on an omelet. Once I got the onions and mushrooms sizzling I got hungry! The omelet had: onions, mushrooms, spinach, sharp cheddar, one egg + one egg white. I almost always add beans to omelets, but this time I held back.
With this I had a repeat of last night's simple mocktail: club soda and lime.
Cheers!

Musical Sunday

On Sunday I woke to an extremely hungry stomach. I made grits, canadian bacon, and egg in toast. Plus coffee:
We went to my parents' house a little later, and had wine and crackers and cheese. More of the same wine as last week. Groth Sauv Blanc 2008.
crackers
The regular crowd was there.
Poojah the peach-faced love bird. Don't let the name fool you, she loves to bite. She also likes Eric Clapton. And Kali, who I disturbed napping. He's very pretty.
After a bit we ordered Chinese takeout. Singapore Mai Fun, Vegetarian Bean Curd, egg rolls, and chicken on a stick are the usuals. I have to eat a little bit of everything.
After eating, we all hopped into a car and headed to Covington to see an early music group called Musica Da Camera.
The church they played in was huge, and the grounds were very pretty.
Later on that evening I had a half of a cantaloupe. I usually wait too long to open up a cantaloupe, but today was my lucky day. This was perfect-o.
There's a few bite marks in it already. I couldn't wait.

*Right now we're dealing with fruit flies because of the cantaloupe and bananas I bought on Saturday. I have almost stopped buying bananas because they attract so many flies. What can I do? I just looked in my coffee cup and there are 3 fruit flies swimming around in there. Ack!
